2012 Republican Candidates Dividend Tax Proposals

With the Super Tuesday coming up and the presidential primary race heating up, it is a good time to start looking at each candidates tax proposals concerning dividends.

Mitt Romney – Has proposed maintaining current low taxes on capital gains, dividends and interest. Also has proposed to eliminate taxes on dividends, interest, and capital gains for taxpayers with an Adjusted Gross Income under $200,000. Info found here

Rick Santorum –  Has proposed lowering taxes on capital gains and dividends to 12%. Info found here

Newt Gingrich – Proposed an optional flat tax rate of 15% on income. Under this optional flat rate tax system, dividends would no longer be taxed. Info found here

Ron Paul – Ron Paul has called for the elimination of income tax and the abolishment of the IRS. Dividends under his proposal would be exempt from taxation. Info found here

All these proposals sound good, but they are what they are – JUST proposals.
